“Oil Painting en Plein Air” Workshop: Capturing Sinks Canyon's Light and Form

Materials: Bring your own oil paints, brushes, palette, and paper or other suitable painting surfaces.
Skill Level: Basic knowledge of oil painting techniques and materials is recommended to fully benefit from this workshop.
Join artist and instructor Lander Burton and discover the joy of oil painting amidst the stunning landscapes of Sinks Canyon! Join our two-day plein air workshop designed for artists who wish to explore the richness and versatility of oils while painting directly from life in the great outdoors. If you have a basic understanding of oil painting and are eager to take your practice into the field, this workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to deepen your skills and capture the unique atmosphere of Wyoming's natural beauty.
Our workshop begins on Friday evening, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lander Art Center. This preparatory session allows us to meet, discuss the practicalities of plein air oil painting, and go over our materials. We'll touch on strategies for capturing the fleeting light and how to approach the landscape with oils, focusing on color mixing and developing a strong sense of form. This is a great time to connect with fellow painters and gear up for a creative day in the canyon.
On Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, we will immerse ourselves in the breathtaking environment of Sinks Canyon. With oils and paper (or your preferred painting surface suitable for oil) in hand, we'll focus on translating the vibrant scenery into compelling compositions. Our emphasis will be on exploring dynamic color mixing to capture the true hues of the landscape and on understanding how to depict form effectively. This hands-on experience will help you develop your unique artistic vision and create expressive oil paintings that reflect your personal response to the environment.
