Materials: All materials are provided! Whether you're drawn to oils, watercolors, or sketching, we'll have everything you need.

Join us for a brand new kind of plein air experience designed for creative freedom and connection with our stunning local landscapes! This workshop invites you to capture the beauty of Lander in the medium that speaks to you—be it the rich texture of oil paints, the luminous flow of watercolors, or the expressive power of drawing. If you have ever wanted to create art outdoors but weren't sure where to start, this is your chance. We provide all the supplies and a supportive environment, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm!
On Friday evening, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, our creative weekend begins at the Lander Art Center. This relaxed preparatory session is a chance to meet your instructor and fellow artists. You'll choose your preferred medium for the weekend, and we'll explore the materials together. We'll discuss foundational approaches to capturing the landscape, from composing a scene to seeing light and shadow, that apply across any medium. It’s the perfect way to get inspired and prepared for our morning in the field.
On Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, we will head out to a scenic location to immerse ourselves in the Wyoming landscape. With your chosen materials in hand, you'll have the freedom to translate the vibrant scenery into your own unique composition. Our instructor will circulate among the group, offering tailored guidance whether you’re layering a watercolor wash, building texture with oil, or defining form with line. The focus is on your personal response to the environment and the joy of the creative process.
Come discover your favorite way to create in the great outdoors. This workshop is your chance to connect with nature, experiment with new materials, and capture the unique beauty of Lander in late summer.
