Tell us what you need
LAC runs its classes and its gallery for everyone in this county, and we would rather change how something works than have you miss it. If a class, a show, or the building itself would keep you from taking part, say so and we will sort it out with you. An accommodation costs you nothing, and there is nothing you have to prove to get one.
How to ask
Three steps, and the first one is the only one you have to do.
Email, call, or say something at the front desk. You do not need a diagnosis, a letter, or a form.
Laura confirms what we can set up and when, and asks you anything she needs to get it right.
You show up and make something. No repeating yourself at the door, and no added cost on your bill.
She takes every accommodation request and is the person to reach if something on this page does not cover your situation. Two weeks ahead of a class or an event gives us the most room to work, and a shorter notice is still worth asking about, because a lot of what people need takes an afternoon to arrange.
What we can set up
These are things LAC has done or can do. The list is a starting point, not the limit.
Handouts, labels, and written instructions printed larger, or read aloud instead, whichever actually helps you.
A technique shown by touch rather than only by watching, so you can feel the shape of what the instructor is doing.
A chair instead of a stool, a table at a height you can reach, or a spot in the room where you can see and hear.
We can translate and print class information and program materials in Spanish or another language, so language is not the thing standing between you and the room. Two weeks of notice is what makes this one work.
Any form or class evaluation we hand out can be done by talking it through with us instead of writing it down.
Most of what we have arranged over the years is not on any list. Ask for the thing you actually need and we will start there.
Coming to the building
We are at 258 Main Street in downtown Lander. The panel beside this covers getting in the door, the restroom, and where to park. If your question is about a particular room, a specific classroom or the clay studio, call us before you make the trip and we will tell you honestly what that room is like to get into and move around in.
If something about the building does not work for you, say so. Moving a class or a meeting to a different part of the building is one of the easiest accommodations we make, and it is worth a phone call rather than a wasted drive.
Step free from the sidewalk through the front door, and a wheelchair ramp into the gallery.
The restroom is accessible and has ADA handrails.
Parking
Street parking runs the length of Main. A spot near either end of the block puts you beside a corner curb ramp, which is the easier way on and off the sidewalk.

Our commitment
LAC is committed to making its programs, services, facilities, and communications accessible to everyone in this community, including people with disabilities, older adults, people with limited English proficiency, and anyone else who runs into a barrier to taking part in the arts.
The Lander Art Center will not discriminate against any individual on the basis of disability in the administration of its programs, services, or activities.
This is Policy 8 of our governing policies, adopted by the LAC Board of Directors, and it carries our obligations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The board reviews the policy and our accessibility checklist at least every three years. We will send you a copy of either one if you want to read it.
Ask us
Nobody at LAC needs to know why. Tell us what would make the thing work for you and we will get it set up before you arrive.
