Lander Art Center Clay Studio - Handbuilding Basics with an emphasis on Slab with Heather Huberty

ABOUT THE CLASSES

Mondays in May - May 13th, 20th, and 27th.

Explore the tactile world of ceramic art in our new class, "Hand Building Basics," taught by the talented Heather Huberty. This class offers a thorough introduction to hand-building techniques, with a special emphasis on slab construction, at the Lander Art Center. Scheduled to run for three consecutive Mondays from 5:30-7:30 pm, this course is perfect for beginners and those looking to refine their skills in creating functional and decorative ceramic pieces.

During the first two sessions, students will dive into the foundational methods of slab building, learning how to manipulate clay into various forms such as bowls, plates, and cups. Techniques for working with clay in both its wet and leather-hard states will be covered, providing participants with the skills to shape their unique creations. The final class will broaden these skills by introducing coil and pinch pot methods, and teaching students how to integrate these techniques into their slab projects. This course not only promises to enhance your crafting capabilities but also provides a platform for personal expression through clay.

Participants are asked to bring a few specific items to ensure they have all the necessary materials for a hands-on learning experience:

  • Recycled plastic dishes (for shaping and supporting projects)

  • A cotton pillowcase (to aid in drying and handling clay)

  • An excitement for learning new things and a bottle of water.

Join us at the Lander Art Center to mold, shape, and transform clay into artistic expressions under Heather’s expert guidance.
