Eco-Exhibition Extravaganza: Entering 3rd-5th grade

Ages: Entering 3rd-5th Grade, 12:00pm-5pm

Thursday, Lander City Park

Fri, Lander Art Center: 224 Main St.

Instructor: Various artist and scientists

Cost: $75

In this week-long camp students will work with artists and scientists to develop an educational art exhibition that will be on display at the Lander Art Center. They will explore the ecology of Sinks Canyon Monday-Wednesday (base at Yurt 4), will learn in City Park on Thursday and on Friday we will end the week at the Lander Art Center by developing their show and finalizing their artwork. The opening reception will be held at Lander Art Center on Friday, July 31 from 5:00PM-6:00PM.

*Day 1 Geology: Monday, July 20, Sinks Canyon Yurt 4 (12pm-5pm)

Students will learn about the geology of Sinks Canyon with local geologist and head of the Central Wyoming Climbers' Alliance, Lauren Heerschap. Students will then create a geology based science project with Maker Space 307 artist, Lorre Hoffman.

*Day 2 Flora: Tuesday, July 21, Sinks Canyon Yurt 4 (12pm-5pm):

Students will learn about the flora of the Sinks Canyon area from local artist and horticulturist, Lennie Poitras.  Lennie will then do an art project with students based on what they learned.

*Day 3 Fauna: Wednesday July 22, Sinks Canyon Yurt 4 (12pm-5pm):

Students will learn about the wild birds of Sinks Canyon from USFS bird expert, Jason Beason.  Local wild bird photographer, Day Scott will then teach students about photographing birds and their native habitats. Students are encouraged to bring binoculars, cell phones, tablets or digital cameras on this day. LAC will provide these things as well.

*Day 4:River Habitat: Thursday July 23, Lander City Park (12pm-5pm)

Students will learn about the insects and fish of the Popo Agie River from local angler and fish expert, George Hunker.  Students will learn about fly tying from George and create an art project inspired by what they learned.  Game and Fish Aquatic Habitat Biologist, Joanna Harter, and Popo Agie Conservation District Educator Diana Olson are teaming up to teach students about the Popo Agie's water habitat to end the day.

*Day 5: Gallery day: Friday July 24, Lander Art Center 224 Main Street (12pm-5pm):

Students will meet at the Lander Art Center and will title and price their work and develop artist statements. Art Center staff will help students learn to properly hang artwork and will teach students to curate their own show. Students will be sent home with a special invitation containing details of the show's opening.

**Students need to bring water, sun protection (hats, sunglasses, sunscreen), and snacks if they wish.

** Due to Covid 19- All students will bring masks. It will be up to the teacher each day if the students will be required to wear them.
