NEAT

(Native Emerging Artist Training)

Are you a Native artist interested in:

  • photographing your artwork,
  • entering a juried show,
  • creating artist marketing materials,
  • and/or participating in an exhibition?
If so, the NEAT program is for you.


Program Description

 The NEAT program, designed for native American emerging artists on the Wind River Indian Reservation,  provides instruction in professional development followed by an exhibition.  Participants will attend classes and create an entry packet containing digital images of their artwork and all supporting materials needed to enter a juried show. The program will end with an opening reception kicking off a six-week exhibit at the Lander Art Center.

The full NEAT program will begin again in September 2011.

Orientation Meeting
September 13, 2011, 6:30 pm at the Wind River Development Fund conference room in Ft. Washakie
During this meeting, introductions will be made and  the program will be explained in detail. Artists will pay the $10 program fee and bring examples of artwork completed within the past three years.

 
Classes
Starting in October 2011, one topic will be offered each month.  Multiple classes will be held on each topic. Classes will take place at the Lander Art Center and on the Wind River Indian Reservation. Experienced instructors qualified in each topic will guide students through each session. Students are required to attend one class on each topic, but encouraged to attend more as needed.

  • Digital Editing and Image List
  • Artist Statement
  • Resume and Business Card
  • Entry Packet and Mailing List
  • Guest Artist
  • Presentation and Packing
  • and Open Studio and Critique

Entry Packet
In order to participate in the 2012 exhibition, artists are again required to submit a completed entry packet which will be created in class.  Completed entry packets include:

  • a CD with digital images
  • an image list
  • an artist statement
  • resume
  • and a business card

Completed entry packets are due March 13, 2012 for the 2012 exhibition.


Exhibit
The 2011-2012 program will end with an opening reception on June 29, 2012 kicking off a six-week exhibit at the Lander Art Center.  All participants successful in completing the training will be included. The exhibit will close on August 4, 2012.

Other Artists
Professional Native American artists not participating in the training may also apply to the exhibition by submitting a completed entry packet including a CD with no more than 5 digital images of their artwork, an image list, an artist statement, resume, and a business card.  Packets are due March 13, 2012.  CD’s will not be returned.  Send to Lander Art Center, RE: NEAT, 224 Main Street, Lander WY 82520.

Call the Lander Art Center at 332-5772 to register. Space is limited to 25 artists. Registration deadline September 10, 2011. Required program payment of $10 will be due at the Orientation Meeting on September 13, 2011.
