Native Emerging Artist Training

2009-2010

Are you a Native artist?  Have you ever applied to a juried art show?  No?Then this program is for you!


(Update: January 2010-We have 17 students who have completed their packets and who are now in the exhibition.  The program has been challenging and exciting and I think everyone has made progress in learning, including me!  Thank-you to all of my students who have been working hard.)

Program Description

 This intensive ten-month program, designed for Emerging Native American Artists on the Wind River Indian Reservation,  provides instruction in professional development followed by a juried exhibition.  Participants will attend classes and create an entry packet containing a CD of artwork and all supporting materials needed to enter a juried show. Hanging of artwork and presentation will also be covered. The program will end in a reception and six-week exhibit at the Lander Art Center.
 
Classes
Starting in September 2009, five classes per month will be held on the Wind River Reservation.  Each month will focus on one topic.  Experienced instructors highly qualified in each topic will guide students through each session.  The topics will be:
*Artist Statement, Resume, and Business Card
*Photographing Artwork
*Digital Editing
*Entry Packet and Mailing List
*Mock Exhibit and Presentation of Artwork
 and
*Framing, Matting, and Packing.

Entry Packet
 Available help will ensure that each artist involved is successful in completing the objectives.  Entry packets are due January 31, 2010.


Exhibit
 The program will end in a reception and six-week exhibit at the Lander Art Center.  All participants successful in completing the training will be included.

Other Artists
 Professional Native American artists not participating in the training may apply to the exhibition by submitting an artist statement, resume and a CD limited to five images.  Please include numbered thumbnail images matching CD files. CD’s cannot be returned.  Send to Dannine Donaho, NEAT Coordinator, c/o Lander Art Center, 224 Main Street, Lander WY 82520. Deadline for applications is January 31, 2010.

Orientation Meeting-Northern Arapaho Tribal Housing Conference Room

Artists pay the $10 program fee and provide examples of work completed within the past three years.  During this meeting, the program will be explained in detail while presenters welcome participants’ input (please bring your calendar) in order to shape the curriculum to meet students’ needs.  Space is limited to 25 artists.
